Caribbean cruises: Caribbean still number one, Mediterranean hot spot

Caribbean cruises get's the competition in the Mediterranean
These days, more than 50% of cruise passengers book their voyages more than six months ahead, according to a study from Cruise Lines International Association. And you won't guess where they're going to? The Mediterranean, Asia and South America are the hottest spots. The Caribbean is still by far number one, but the Mediterranean is the fastest-growing destination, according to the Cruise lines associations.

Bol na Bracu, Croatia, Europe

So far, the Mediterranean is the 4th most-booked route for the year 2008. The podium is still shared by Caribbean taking spot number one, second is Alaska and 3rd place goes to the Mexican riviera. Overall, the study shows, that the web's agents last year took 41% more bookings for Europe than in year 2006. "People are looking for strategies to maximize the value of the dollar against a strong euro," said Steve Loucks, spokesman for Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates. Caribbean cruises are still bargains, but then again the fall in fares is definitely over.

Caribbean cruises: Say goodbye to bad TV chanels on cruise ships

Caribbean Cruises presents article from http://www.usatoday.com/
Say goodbye to the era of bad TV on cruise ships
Cruise lines are known for innovation. Just look at the latest ships from Royal Caribbean which have everything from wave pools for surfing to boxing rings. But if there's one area where the cruise industry lags behind, it's in-room entertainment. Sure, nearly every cabin on every ship has a television. But click around on that television and what do you find? Not much. Maybe one channel playing the same movie over and over again. And a fuzzy version of Fox News, plus a few cruise line-produced channels showing you such exciting things as a replay of last night's lounge act or a primer on spending money in the ship casino.

Enter Wave Entertainment, a subsidiary of SeaMobile, which has developed a new satellite television service that can be beamed to ships around the globe. Boasting at least 25 channels, plus dozens of movies-on-demand, it'll debut in April on Oceania's Insignia."We're not the first to bring CNN or Fox News to a (cruise ship) stateroom, but we're the first to present television in the stateroom like you would expect to see at home," says Dennis Flaharty, the executive vice president for technology at Wave.In addition to far more channels and on-demand choices than anything currently available at sea, Wave's system also is the first all-digital system for a cruise ship, which will mean better clarity for the shows you watch. No more fuzziness when the lady in the cabin next door turns on her hair dryer, says Flaharty. In addition to launching on Oceania's Insignia, which will get the new system during a dry dock in late March, the new Wave TV platform also will be installed later this year on Oceania's Nautica and Regatta, and Wave already is talking to other lines about bringing it to more ships.Flaharty says the on-demand feature of the new system will allow passengers to choose from not just dozens of movies but their favorite TV shows. "We have a very deep movie library for on-demand, and we've added something we're really proud of, which we're calling 'catch-up TV.' It could be the Desperate Housewives that was on six hours ago that you missed." Flaharty says improvements in technology are making the system possible. "Up until a couple years ago this couldn't have been done," he notes. "Compression technologies have advanced."

Caribbean cruises: The Biggest Cruise Ship in the World

Carribean cruises presents the biggest cruise ship in the world the Liberty of the Seas!

Cruising the Caribbean aboard the biggest ship in the world, Liberty of the Seas, your first impression is that this ship is really huge I mean, really, really huge. This ship is almost four football fields long, more than half a football field wide and nearly 20 stores high. Liberty of the Seas has one sister ship, Freedom of the Seas, and will soon be joined by another floating city named Independence of the Seas. Food and vitality go together on this ship. Eat a lot and do a lot to take it off. The main dining room seats 2,000 at two sittings, but the 3 levels create a more intimate atmosphere.

The vitality part comes from the largest and best equipped fitness center you've ever seen at sea. Amazing number of modern equipment for every single muscle, plus yoga, plus Pilates and a boxing and skating ring. Outside you'll find the biggest rock climbing wall at sea, a simulated surf wave, a basketball and soccer area, miniature golf, golf simulator, ping pong and shuffleboard. The heart of the ship is so called Royal Promenade. It stretches from the dining room to the theatre and is loaded with ten's of stores of every description, along with restaurants and bars. Kids and teens win with the largest arcade at sea and entertainment zones for every age and teens even have their own night club. Liberty of the Seas is simply amazing!

Caribbean cruises: Disney Cruise Line

Caribbean cruises presents Disney Cruise Line
No one would be surprised to learn that a cruise line from Disney would be a great family vacation. What you might be surprised to learn is that these ships are as elegantly appointed as any at sea! You may also be surprised to learn that Disney does not forget about its adult passengers either. The Disney ships each have three distinct sections: One for kids, another for families and yet another for adults only. So, even if you don't have kids, you can enjoy a Disney cruise! Disney also offers an adult only dining experience in its Paolo Restaurant. This quiet, elegant, Italian-theme restaurant serves some of the best food at sea for a nominal service charge. Other restaurants on board offer more traditional cruise fare. We found all of them to be good. While the entertainment on baord is decidedly Disney, it is professional, energetic and worth going to. There is also an adult-only comedy club for late night laughs. Of course, if you are cruising with kids, Disney is unbeatable. With several areas on the ship dedicated to "Kids Only - No Adults Allowed", your kids will have a blast with their supervised activities.

Caribean Cruises: Bye, bye to bigger bellies?

Caribean Cruises presents Bye, bye to bigger bellies?

Sailing away on a cruise ship with a midnight buffet no longer means waving goodbye to your diet.
Keeping with the times, cruise lines are promising spa-like cuisine alongside the buttery lobster and piles of crab legs. The hope is that lighter selections will lure health-conscious baby boomers and others who fear being trapped at sea with a 24-hour pizza bar.
Royal Caribbean Cruises last year introduced its "Vitality" program, which weaves healthier meals and exercise into the sailing experience. Carnival Cruise Lines now has lighter dishes with nutritional stats on menus for hawk-eyed calorie counters. On Crystal Cruises, fresh fruits and whole grains are playing a bigger role on the buffet line. In the past year, most major cruise lines have tossed trans fats overboard.
"We're hoping it will dispel the myth that a cruise experience is just about overeating. You can eat very healthfully, very creatively, and have a lot of wonderful choices," said Mimi Weisband, a spokeswoman for Crystal.

While cruising is still a small portion of the travel industry, analysts say it's poised to burgeon as legions of baby boomers retire in coming years. But capturing that new wave of cruisers means tuning into their lifestyle, which is increasingly focused on staying fit.
Adopting that good-for-you sensibility on board not only satisfies veteran passengers, but may entice new ones, said Robin Diedrich, a leisure analyst with Edward Jones in St. Louis.
The lighter foods and fitness choices are typically included in the cost of the cruise. On the Disney Cruise Line, that means breakfasts with more whole grains and low-fat yogurts. Crystal is paring down portion sizes and featuring more creative salads. Menus on Carnival cruises list the caloric information for "spa" dishes including: roasted banana panna cotta in citrus broth (150 calories), charred broccoli and cauliflower tortellini (190 calories) or red snapper over stewed fruits (290 calories).
Royal Caribbean in January did away with its midnight buffets, but the famed concept lives on in other ships.
Those looking to get moving on Royal Caribbean ships can consult virtual trainer kiosks and self-guided running maps for land excursions. One class takes passengers on a tour of the ship's eateries, with pointers on the healthiest choices.
Whether passengers actually select the lean new plates, just knowing they're available can help drown out second thoughts about boarding what, for many, amounts to a floating binge fest. Like a gym membership, having a "light" menu might massage away the guilt.
Judging from the orders so far, however, not many are exercising their right to eat healthy.
On Carnival Cruises, the "spa" choices only account for about 15 to 20 percent of appetizer orders. For main courses, they're only up to 3 percent, said Peter Leypold, the company's corporate executive chef.
Royal Caribbean says it doesn't track usage of its new dishes and classes, but says they're popular

Caribbean Cruises: Types Of Cruise Vacations Tips For The Ultimate Cruise Experience

Caribbean Cruises presents: Types Of Cruise Vacations
Cruising is the ultimate vacation of convenience: The captain does the driving, the chef prepares your meals and the shore excursion staff informs you, where to go and what to see. All you need to do is to show up, unpack your luggage and sit back and enjoy the vacations. Before you go, you should know what the experts have to say about choosing the best cabin, getting to the ship, and having a great time once you're on board.

You should stay on the Ship's Radar

A big benefit of booking airfare through the cruise company is that you will be on the ship's radar if your flight is canceled or delayed. It's the responsibility of the the cruise line to get you on the ship one way or another. If you book your own airfare and miss the boat (and didn't purchase cancellation insurance), meeting up with the ship at the next port is on your own costs.

Go a Day Early

"I always book my clients in a hotel the night before the cruise no matter where they are sailing from, it takes the stress out of misconnections, bad weather and lost luggage," says Mary Jean Tully, chairman and CEO of Cruise Professionals. "Who wants to fly all the way to Barcelona and get right on the ship? It's nice to wake up in the city where the ship is sailing from, have a leisurely breakfast, relax or do a city tour."

How to Choose the Right Cabin

You should never take a room on the promenade deck, that's a must! To hedge against seasickness, choose a cabin amidships (located in the middle of a deck) and on a lower deck, as close as possible to the ship's center of rotation. You should also avoid cabins located directly below the loud pool deck, gym, restaurants.

Indemnify Yourself

It's wise to protect your investment with third-party insurance. Cost of insurance is generally about 5 percent of the total cost of the cruise. You'll be covered if you have to cancel the cruise for medical reasons, work commitments, missed flights, cruise line bankruptcy or other issues.

Caribbean Cruises

Caribbean Cruises
The islands of the Caribbean Sea or West Indies are an extensive archipelago in the far west of the Atlantic Ocean, mostly strung between North and South America. They've long been known as a resort vacation destination for honeymooners and retirees, but a small movement toward eco-tourism and backpacking has started to open up the Caribbean to more independent travel. With year-round good weather (with the minor exception of hurricane season in the late summer and early fall), promotional air fares from Europe and North America, and hundreds of islands to explore, the Caribbean offers something for almost everyone.
